AN EXCITING ENGLISH DEEPDIVE

Switching

On Monday morning we cycled to the scouting camp in Wijchen. When we arrived, we had to hand in our phones straight away and we were worried how we would live without them. From then on it was only English and we really had to get used to that. In the beginning we found it difficult because we really had to switch from Dutch. But after a while we got used to it.

First, we started with some activities which were so nice! We were separated in groups with students from other classes and that was good to work with other people as well. In the groups we did many English-speaking games like: 30 seconds, the yes/no game, the alphabet game, a spelling game and other fun activities. The activities were run by vwo 5 students from our school so they really helped us and reminded us to keep speaking English. Then there was a sports round. We had to hang on a tree, play ten-ball end sack race. We also had a very nice high tea! Yummy, and Gigi’s cake was gone in the first round.

Friends & fun

In the afternoon, we did a music bingo. Unfortunately, we didn’t win but it was a lot of fun and a lot of singing and even some dancing! After the BBQ we played capture the flag. We also did The Last Man Standing (the all-rounder). This included many challenges like making a paper airplane, catching a bouncing ball, counting to 2 minutes and team challenges. In the final round only Willem and Zazí were left over and girl power was stronger and Zazí won.

The next morning, we had an English breakfast – scrambled eggs, beans, sausages and cereal. That was different because we never eat this kind of breakfast. After that we had an award ceremony and cycled to the Berendonck for some more activities. We had to build our own raft and really go on the water with it. When the camp ended and we were cycling home we were so used to speaking English, that we continued to speak English to each other and then laughed at each other when we realised. This camp really helped us with our English plus we made a lot of new friends from the other class; it was so much fun!
